UWCRC 2.0 is the Developer and Project Manager for West Central Women’s Resource Centre Project’s Transitional Housing Project.
590 Victor will create safe, accessible, supportive, and culturally appropriate transitional housing units for individuals who have experienced gender-based violence. Operated by West Central Women’s Centre, the transitional housing project will be a place that creates community, and offer a variety of integrated supports for the residents to assist individuals in transitioning to, and maintaining longer-term, stable housing.
The project features 16 units with 34 beds, including: six three-bedroom, six two-bedroom, and four one-bedroom units. The units will offer residents a quality standard of living, each unit will offer spacious living areas as well as their own bathroom and kitchen. The majority of apartments will be fully barrier-free accessible. In addition to the transitional housing units, the renovation/ rehabilitation includes the addition of an elevator, spaces for common tenant gathering, programming and staff offices and a roof-top gathering/play-space.
The WCWRC’s project has been awarded $4.3 million from CMHC’s Rapid Housing Initiative, via the City of Winnipeg’s municipal program funding allocation, with additional bridge financing available through Assiniboine Credit Union. The project has to date also raised $500k from the Winnipeg foundation and an additional $400k in other private donations. WCWRC has received programming support from the Province of Manitoba.
